AAYK Football Club are pleased to announce a hard-earned 2–1 victory over Ase-Ridyem FC in a highly competitive Matchday 2 encounter of the Nationwide League One (NLO), extending our perfect start to the season.
The encounter began at an energetic pace, with both sides demonstrating early attacking intent. We quickly asserted ourselves, creating the first clear opportunity of the match through an early corner and sustained pressure on the opposition’s defensive line. A promising attacking sequence involving Dunsin and Makinde nearly produced the opening goal, but a heavy touch allowed Ase-Ridyem to recover.
As the game progressed, it developed into an engaging end-to-end contest. We, however, showed greater attacking purpose, consistently probing the final third. At the heart of our defensive resilience was Fatai Uthman, whose commanding performance included crucial clearances and a decisive deflection to deny the opposition a clear scoring chance.
The breakthrough came in the 26th minute, courtesy of a moment of individual brilliance from Oluwafemi Ayodele. Displaying composure and skill, the winger drove into the penalty area and calmly finished past the goalkeeper to give us a deserved lead.
Buoyed by the advantage, we continued to dictate proceedings and came close to doubling our lead through Oyedepo Kunle, whose header narrowly missed the target. Our defensive organization remained resolute, ensuring we went into the halftime interval with our lead intact.
The second half resumed with renewed intensity, and we extended our lead in the 54th minute to take firm control of the match. Despite the two-goal cushion, Ase-Ridyem FC responded with determination, pulling one goal back in the 67th minute to set up a tense conclusion.
The closing stages saw sustained pressure from the opposition, but our defensive discipline held firm. Fatai Uthman once again stood out with a series of vital interventions, while our goalkeeper delivered a crucial point-blank save earlier in the match to deny Taiwo—an effort that proved pivotal in preserving our lead.
We demonstrated composure and resilience in the face of late pressure, successfully seeing out the game to secure all three points and record a second consecutive victory of the campaign.
This result ensures that we remain top of the Oduduwa Centre standings on goal difference, reinforcing our strong early-season form and growing credentials as title contenders.
