AAYK Football Club continued our remarkable unbeaten run in the 2026 Nationwide League One (NLO) campaign with a determined 1-0 victory over Ile Ogbo United FC at the Oduduwa College Centre, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The result marks our fifth consecutive victory of the season, further strengthening our position at the top of the standings and underlining the team’s consistency, resilience, and winning mentality throughout the ongoing NLO26 campaign.
From kickoff, we approached the encounter with intensity and composure, controlling possession and searching for an early breakthrough. Adeleke Akorede’s dangerous deliveries from set pieces consistently troubled the opposition defense, while our attacking line continued to apply pressure inside the final third.
Our defensive unit also stood firm whenever called upon, with Fatai Uthman producing several crucial interventions and timely clearances to deny Ile Ogbo United opportunities in dangerous areas.
A major opportunity arrived in the 25th minute when Makinde Iyannu reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the penalty area, but his powerful effort was brilliantly denied by the opposition goalkeeper.
The breakthrough eventually came two minutes later. Akorede delivered another dangerous corner kick into the box, and Oyeleke Kunle rose highest to direct a powerful header into the bottom corner, giving us a deserved lead after sustained pressure.
We entered the halftime break with the advantage following an impressive first-half display that reflected our attacking intent and defensive discipline.
The second half proved more intense as Ile Ogbo United pushed aggressively for an equaliser, but we maintained our composure and tactical structure. Akorede continued to dictate play from midfield, linking attacks confidently and helping the team control key moments of the game.
At the back, Fatai Uthman once again delivered a commanding performance, making vital tackles and composed clearances to preserve our lead during difficult spells of pressure.
The contest took another dramatic turn in the 68th minute when Kunle was shown a red card, reducing us to ten men for the remainder of the match. Despite the setback, the team demonstrated outstanding resilience, discipline, and unity to defend the lead until the final whistle.
Our ability to grind out the result under pressure further highlights the character within the squad as we continue to build momentum in the competition.
With five straight wins and an unbeaten record intact, we remain fully focused on maintaining our high standards and continuing our strong push in the Nationwide League One season.
